Forget Ricky Gervais' pithy one liners. Our moment of the night from last night's Golden Globes in LA has to go to Elton John for looking the most silly at an awards do ever.
Nominated for the Best Original Song gong, the normally -shy-and-retiring singer told E!'s red carpet reporters that the award was pretty much in the bag. Before saying something rather impolite (again) about fellow nominee - and soon-to-be winner, Madonna.
Elton told Carson Daly: "Mary J [Blige] might win for The Help. Madonna hasn't got a f*ing chance."
Carson then joked: "Those are fighting words". To which Elton replied: "They're accurate words!"
Just seconds earlier, the reporter had tried to stir things up by informing Madonna that her nemesis had arrived. She said: "Was he wearing a dress?"
Once inside, Elton was forced to eat his words as Madonna trudged (she's too manly looking to glide) up to the stage to receive the award for her film W.E's signature track. She then told waiting reporters: "Elton is great. I'm sure he'll win something soon."
The pair fell out in 2004 when Elton criticised Madonna for "lip-syncing" at an awards do. It seemed they'd made up as they posed for pictures at another awards in 2007.
