Ant and Dec's Saturday Nightmare

antanddec.jpg Hmmm, not so loveable now, are they? Something... sinister about those smiles? Especially Ant. I don't know. It seems to me that phone-ins, like the lottery, are something of a tax on the stupid. But it's not just phone-in scandals (and there have been many, of late). It's come to light that Ant and Dec's Saturday Night takeaway was announced winner of the People's Choice Award way back in 2005 when the people didn't choose them.

Well, I mean, some people did. Just a few million less people than the prize's name implies. The prize should have gone to Catherine Tate. Can you believe it? Well, yeah. Robbie Williams appeared on the promise that he could give an award to his mates Ant & Dec. The trouble is they didn't actually win anything. Oh well, better to just make up a massive lie to keep Robbie Williams happy. Take the phones off the hook, forget about what the audience wants, and let's have a big matey love-in, right ITV? Watch out - Ofcom will get you eventually though. To the tune of £5m, and - worse - loads of those humiliating compulsary apologies like the one poor old "Saint Konnie" had to read out on Blue Peter.

Declan Donnelly presents the weather forecast on GMTV

Bored of your usual weather presenters? How’s about getting your weather news from cheeky Geordie Declan Donnelly (sadly bereft of chum Ant.) In the clip from this morning’s GMTV, Dec provided the weather report as practice for this week’s challenge in the Ant versus Dec segment of his show Saturday Night Takeaway. The two pals are set to go head to head on Saturday night to see which one is best at warning the nation about cold fronts and low pressure. Do we think Dec has a future as the next Michael Fish?

Google Wars: Ant vs Dec!

Antanddec_3

Google Wars is no respecter of friendship.  Don't be under any illusion about that, y'hear?  Sorry, came over all action-hero for no apparent reason there.  Anyway, this week saw a return to our airwaves after an absence of, oooh, minutes for Ant and Dec.  Since the early days on Byker Grove these two have been nigh-on inseparable.  I can't be the only one who secretly thinks that they live together, with a single bed each, much in the fashion of Bert and Ernie off Sesame Street, can I?  Can I?  CAN I?

Anyway, with the two of them having insurance policies taken out on one another, there can be no doubt that Dec and Ant are a duo, a twosome.  So many lyrics, they're frightened to use 'em.  So many lyrics, they keep them in stores.  They've even got them coming out of their pores.  So the rumour goes, anyway.  Well, we thought we'd drive a Google-war shaped wedge between the two of them.  We're so nasty, but you love us.  So, LET'S GET READY TO RHUUUUUUUUUMBLE!

First up is Ant.  Using the name "Ant McPartlin" we hit up the famous search engine to see who has the more results in a Google search and is, therefore, morally superior.  And Ant has ... 59,400.  That's not very many at all.  Let's try "Declan Donnelly", then.  Crikey!  He has 205,000!  Now, even allowing for the fact that Donnelly is a more commonly-occuring surname than McPartlin, that makes Dec the winner.  If he's smiling more than usual at the start of Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend, you'll know why.  [Toni Kelly]

Best man Dec goes down a storm at Ant's wedding

Antwedding Planning a Best Man speech at someone's wedding soon? Forget those books that promise to hand you the perfect speech on a plate, and just bow at the feet of Dec Donnelly, who did the honours at pal Ant McPartlin's wedding this weekend. His speech appears to have gone down well.

"As you know, I'm the best man... I've always known that, it's just taken Ant a while to realise. Traditionally, the best man offers words of advice on girls and marriage. I don't know why they've asked me - I don't have a girlfriend and I'm not married... But I'm sure there's a girl for me just round the corner - unless the police have moved her on from there last night!"

A lucrative career awaits as the new Bob Monkhouse (or at least as a wedding-night speech writer). Meanwhile, the wedding guests happily jigged the night away to - no, not AntMusic - but the Kaiser Chiefs' 'I Predict A Riot'. [Stuart Dredge]
